Possible Ways of Cockroaches to Enter in Your Home/Kitchen

Cockroach infestations typically begin when a few cockroaches enter a building searching for food, water, and shelter. Here are some common ways infestations start: Cockroaches can enter your home/kitchen in a variety of ways, including:

  • Cracks and Crevices: Cockroaches are excellent at squeezing through small gaps and cracks. They can enter your kitchen through gaps around pipes, vents, windows, and doors.
  • Food Packages and Grocery Bags: Cockroaches can hitch a ride on food packages or grocery bags brought into your home. They can also infest food products at the store before you bring them home.
  • Drains and Sewers: Cockroaches can enter your home through the sewer system or drain pipes in the kitchen. They can crawl up drain pipes and enter your home through sinks and other drains.
  • Shared Walls and Plumbing: Cockroaches can move between apartments or units through shared plumbing systems, walls, and ventilation ducts, HDB rubbish chutes making multi-unit infestations more likely.
  • Clothing and Personal Belongings: Cockroaches can also hitch a ride on clothing, bags, and other personal belongings. If you have been in an area where there is a cockroach infestation, they can attach themselves to your belongings and be transported to your home.

5 Best Tips to Get Rid of Cockroaches in Kitchen

1. Eliminate All Sources of Food

The filthier your kitchen space is, the more likely the cockroaches will come into the space to feed, breed, and thrive.

Always get rid of any food leftovers, or food spills, and ensure that you cover all your food properly and do not keep anything open and accessible to the cockroaches.

2. Don’t Leave Unwashed Utensils Overnight

It is important that you clean and store all used kitchen appliances and utensils at the end of the day.

Unwashed utensils with food waste will attract cockroaches.

3. Trash should be Thrown Away

The main reason why cockroaches thrive in the kitchen is because of the bins/thrash being in the kitchen area. Every night, remember to take the trash out of the kitchen and place it in the appropriate outside bin or down the Hdb chute.

4. Keep Kitchen Space Spotless & Dry

It is a necessity to keep all kitchen surfaces spotlessly clean. Cleaning the kitchen surfaces and floor with a good cleaning solution will keep cockroaches at bay.

Cockroaches are strongly attracted to even small amounts of water and dampness, making it a key factor in preventing them from entering your home.  Always ensure spills and condensation are dried promptly to avoid attracting roaches.

5. Repair the leaking pipe

Most of the time, the leaking sink pipe is the cause of 50% of cockroach infestation. The juice that leaks out from the sink pipes is the best meal for cockroaches. There is no point in controlling cockroaches if the pipes are not fixed.

HOW TO GET RID OF COCKROACHES IN HOMES?

STEP 1:  None of the products will work if sanitation is not done. (Easy access to food, water, and warmth will continue to attract cockroaches)

STEP 2:  Get the leaking pipe and/or roof fixed. (This is the cause of most Infestation and the effect is either having cockroach or termite infestation.)

STEP 3:  Clean up Cockroach feces. (Feces contain arrestant pheromones and will attract cockroaches to aggregate)

----------------------

Proceed only when Steps 1, 2 & 3 are done.

STEP 4:  Use a Cockroach Gel bait with Domino-Killing effect. As cockroaches like to aggregate, infecting one cockroach will spread the active ingredient to others like wildfire.

MODE OF ACTION: Fiproles (IRAC2A)

SPEED
POWER

+ Special: Domino killing effect

STEP 6:  Use Cockroach monitor traps to check whether there are new infestations.

The trap above suggests the area remains populated with cockroaches. Continue using the Gel bait to bring the population down.

Utilize PEST BOX "C" to eradicate all Cockroaches efficiently. Rapidly flush out & eliminate all cockroaches hiding in the cracks & crevices, behind cupboards, fridges, and baking ovens.

Do not use in cabinet storing plates, bowls, canned food.... (Use gel bait for this purpose)

Avoid applying Cockroach gel bait to surfaces treated with Box "C" as it may discourage Cockroach consumption oF the gel.

Utilize PEST BOX 'B' as a non-repellent residual treatment for Cockroaches. As cockroaches move around the sprayed areas, their feelers and legs picks up the active ingredient causing it to die.

After spraying with Box B, wait for the place to dry and apply Gel bait to the interior of cupboards.

I'm confused, so many choices. Which or What should I choose?
Answer: Combination of 3 for best effect. If you can only choose 1 kind, choose the gel bait.

Box "B" Silent killer (Non-detectable by roaches).
MODE OF ACTION: Neonicotinoids (IRAC4A)

Box "C" Use for Rapid killing (flushing action, kills immediately upon contact).
MODE OF ACTION: Pyrethriod (IRAC3A)

Emit German Cockroach Gel Bait  Use to kill hard-to-reach/ hidden areas /food storage areas.

EMIT GLUE TRAPS (WITH ATTRACTANTS) Use to detect the presence of cockroaches and identify which kind.
MODE OF ACTION: Physical Action (Stick by glue)

Some cockroach populations have become resistant to pyrethroids Box "C". If you find Box "B" doesn't work that well, you should switch to Box "B". Using a combination of different Mode of Action can improve cockroach control. It can also be helpful to switch to an entirely different chemical class to control resistant Cockroach populations.
